holy shit on a stick! i need to update but, unfortunately, i don't have much of consequence to report to you based on this last month. i've really been doing nothing. i actually executed a half-assed attempt at finding a job, and the only job that i found tolerable was given to someone else.

i've been agonizing over what my major should be- to ( Read more... )

yeah! i'm doing that no matter what. it's super easy to get credit for- at my school, the typical 40 credits aren't required for the ia major, but it does require you to spend at least eight weeks abroad- which isn't bad. ;)

you still have time dear!! is there anyone you can talk to at the school? oh also ... this is the site that helped me find archiving: www.careercruising.com username: lompoc password: careers. i don't know if it will help you, but it helped me :)

i would suggest taking russian if you're really interested IN russia, not just reading russian literature (although, it is indeed great). you can always learn russian on your own if you want it for literature, but if you major in russian alongside anthropology, political science, or international affairs, you would most likely be placed into russian issues rather than say, swedish issues. international affairs though is definitely a good major, especially with globalization and geopolitics nowadays.

you can always talk to me and i will try to help -- but remember, you have time!

i'm going to try to hook up with some people once i'm officially enrolled in durham and thinking about what to take for fall. in the meantime my grandmother, who used to work for the government, can give me the number of a friend of hers who is actually a foreign service officer in russia ;)

i remember you referring me to that site before, it is extremely helpful! thank you!

yeah, what i could also do is major in history or european cultural studies while actually focusing on russia, so i have a broad major but it's not limited to the one country. unh also has a master program in museum studies, which combines museum courses along with concentrations in two regions- and they offer a concentration in russia! so surprisingly there are a lot of ways i could study the russian culture and language without having to get a plain russian degree and spend the rest of my life translating newspaper articles lmao.

thank you for your help!! :$ <- lmao

Indeed you still have time to pick a major. I still have not really declared and I am at my 3rd year. My suggestion to you is to do internships and experience the working world. By doing this you'll figure what you want. *hugs* Sorry to hear about the job find. I wish you the best of luck in the future.

thank you sweetie. *hugs* internships have been suggested to me before- i should really start calling some people in order to try out different work environments. i admire you for being patient about deciding on a major (for i am going nuts about it lmao) do you at least have an idea on where you will probably go with a degree?

Good.Internships allow you the chance to get that feel in real life. Perhaps you will come to find that you will not enjoy the field that you think you will.

As for what I wish to do with my degree, I do not know. I will go out there in the working world and see what I can do with my life and go from there. Life is a working experience and should be decided as such, not simply assuming what you want to do or not accepting what your parents or guardians tell you to do.
