And certainly! I do a pretty standard layout, I think. Three lights (those outdoor spotlight ones) on the ground in a semicircle around the sim, and one light (usually just the cheapest light or Awesims' ceiling spotlight) above in the middle of the semicircle. I tend to have them set to flame coloured and dim intensity, but that varies on the mood I'm trying to reach with the picture. Here's an example of one of my sets. The black dot in front of the sim is the overhead light. Hope this helps! :)
Edit: One thing I forgot to add; I don't usually use a photoshoot background object like Awesims' or Murano's, because I find that you get nicer shadows and more dramatic lighting if you put the sim in front of a wall.
I am still experimenting with lights in TS3, because there are so many more options than in TS2! I am not very fond of photoshoot background objects too, they always turn out weird in my pictures!
Me too! The options are endless, especially with all the different light colours and intensities we can have now.
I thought you'd be interested if you hadn't seen these before - someone made a set of invisible lights with different varieties. I just found them the other day, and they're really useful. :D There's a spotlight one that I enjoy very much, and some directional ones too for both the ceiling and floor.
Thank you, I'm very happy to hear you like them. <3
Yeah, there are still posts on here, and I certainly always prefer to post downloads on here than on tumblr, but it is a lot quieter than it used to be. :(
It is certainly quieter, and that makes me sad. Tumblr is fun, but I don't really think it's a great place to post downloads, as they are easily lost amongst the multitude of posts on there each day. So, I'm glad you aren't abandoning LJ, and I won't be either. :)
Yeah. I agree about the downloads thing especially - that's why I had to make another tumblr dedicated to rounding up downloads I wanted. I never remembered to get them otherwise, or they'd get lost in the shuffle. And I'm glad to hear that. :D
Your pictures are really incredible! I don't want lj to die either :( which is why I'm going to make an effort to post here as well, but it still feels strange as I'll just be posting the same stuff I post on tumblr ¬¬.
And yeah, most of the pictures I'd post here would be on my tumblr first, but after some thought on it, I don't really think it's too bad. After all, I miss a lot of nice pictures on tumblr, but if I can find them on LJ then I still get to see them.
I'm doing the same so it's like the best of both worlds. Tumblr is really quick and easy to post pictures, but LJ is more organised and much easier to keep up with so I think it's better for downloads or longer picture posts. This is why I never got DW though because I hate having multiple sites for the same thing and trying to decide where to post something!
I agree-tumblr is so much harder to keep track of than the nice, neat little Friends list, and I miss the comment back-and-forths. But LJ certainly isn't making much of a case for itself with its new, more annoying image wizard thing! >:(
Yeah, I'd like tumblr and LJ to be able to coexist peacefully, both with lively, active communities. And I've never really used any of LJ's image features, so I'm afraid I can't relate on that. XD

Also, can I ask you how do you arrange lights when you take phothoshoots? :)

And I think there is still some life on LJ and DW. Well, I'm still here at least...
