Something of vengeance I had tasted for the first time; as aromatic wine it seemed, on swallowing, warm and racy: its after-flavor, metallic and corroding, gave me a sensation as if I had been poisoned.

“Jin, something wrong?” Kazuya asked from his boyfriend who was staring at the television holding onto a cup palm all white from the pressure he was giving to the cup. Kazuya knew that there had news been coming from the television just earlier but Kazuya had gone to change his clothes and had missed pretty much everything.
“No. Nothing,” Jin answered but he was gritting his teeth together in anger. It wasn’t the first time Kazuya saw Jin angry like that. It happened pretty much any time he spoke about his family because of the memories he had of what had ruined it all.
Ok, if you say so,” Kazuya decided he wouldn’t press Jin into talking. He believed that Jin would come to him when he was ready to talk about what was going on. That is what had happened earlier in their relationship when Jin had opened up about the dark past to Kazuya.
“I’ll prepare breakfast,” Kazuya informed the older one and disappeared to the kitchen. Silently he hoped Jin would decide to talk to him after having calmed down from the state he was in right then.
Jin barely noticed Kazuya going to another room. His blood was boiling. He had seen the news of the psycho bitch getting out from the prison because of good behavior and apparent change in her mental state. Jin didn’t trust that anyone could change like that. Not after what they had done. And if the system wouldn’t punish her, then Jin would.
It was just that simple.
“It’s your birthday today?” the woman with a gun in her hand asked Jin while his mother was circling her arms around Jin to keep him safe. Jin could sense the danger that came because of the gun.
“Answer me!” the woman demanded pointing around with the gun. Jin nodded hesitantly feeling how his mother was trembling while holding him.
“Please, lady, put the gun down,” his father pleaded trying to stand up but the woman pointed the gun at him making him stay still.
“Don’t come near me,” the crazy woman ordered and Jin’s father did as he was told. “Now, blow the candles,” the woman smiled at Jin looking at the cake with 6 candles in front of Jin. His parents had been singing a birthday song for him when suddenly the woman came to them with the gun. Everyone else from the burger place had run away in fear. Only they and one of the waiters were left inside the building.
The memories of the day suddenly came back to Jin making the anger stronger. The woman should be locked up. She shouldn’t be walking around. She was insane and a murderer!
Jin would stop her, he decided. He would stop her and save another family that way because he was sure the woman would once again go crazy and go kill some little boy’s parents on his birthday to satisfy her own insanity.
He didn’t care how but he would stop her.

Kazuya was surfing the internet while Jin was sitting on their bed with a magazine on his hand though he was not reading it. His thoughts were on the revenge. He had found out where the woman was living and had started to plan what would be the best way to get through with the woman.
Jin and Kazuya had been in a relationship for 9 and half months and they had moved rather fast in it. After four months they had decided to move in together and although they had had their troubles finding out all of each others’ bad habits at once, they had made through it until today.
Jin could honestly say that Kazuya was the best thing that had happened to him after his parents died almost 20 years ago. After the terrible events on Jin’s birthday he was placed to a foster family but there were problems and so he was shoved from one foster home to another.
Then at age of 18 Jin moved to his own apartment and started working. 10 months ago he met Kazuya at work and soon after they were already dating. It was love at first sight and Jin had to say he felt like they were meant for each other.
Kazuya was kind, patient and loving. Jin needed all of those things from others. Kazuya never forced him to speak about anything. Jin knew Kazuya could see when he wasn’t telling the truth about something but he never blamed Jin for it. He accepted anything Jin told him and waited for the older one to come and talk to him. Kazuya only reminded him now and then that Jin could talk to Kazuya about anything at all.
In the end Jin had decided to tell everything about his life to Kazuya. He wanted to share everything with Kazuya. And most of all, he wanted to know if Kazuya had really been telling the truth. Kazuya had listened to the story without interrupting Jin at all. And when everything was told, Kazuya hugged and kissed Jin telling him how sorry he was and Jin had known it wasn’t out of pity that Kazuya said so.
“Ne, Jin. Let’s go to the beach next week’s weekend,” Kazuya suggested suddenly. Jin lifted his head to look at the back of his boyfriend.
“Why?” he asked. It was slightly weird that Kazuya was suddenly suggesting something as such to him.
“Because there’s a good pasta place there and we could just hang out,” Kazuya turned and smiled at Jin but Jin was still suspicious.
“Why do you want to go on the next week’s weekend?” Jin asked raising an eyebrow like he was telling Kazuya he knew exactly what the younger one was planning for him.
“Jin. I just want to go there with you,” Kazuya sighed but the date was still bothering Jin.
“If you’re planning something for my birthday you can forget about it. I told you I don’t celebrate it,” Jin turned his attention back to the magazine missing the pout that formed on his boyfriend’s lips because of his words.
“Can’t I do anything for you on your special day?” Kazuya asked in slightly whining tone. He was disappointed that he couldn’t fool Jin into going to the beach. Jin was too smart to be fooled but he should have known that already by then.
“Please don’t,” Jin said trying to seem ignorant of the whole date but Kazuya could see the sadness. He stood up and walked to the bed to settle next to Jin.
“I know you have bad memories of your birthday but… I really want to at least be able to give you a present and cook a special dinner for you if nothing else,” Kazuya explained. Kazuya could understand that the trauma of what had happened on his birthday made it hard for Jin to celebrate his birthday but to Kazuya it seemed like Jin hadn’t moved on and he knew that Jin should. He was afraid what would happen if Jin wouldn’t be able to move on.
What he didn’t know was that it was already happening. The revenge Jin was planning would totally ruin everything they had built. But all Jin could see was the need to get even with what the woman had done to his parents.
“Please let us go now,” Jin’s mother pleaded the woman who had sat on the same table with them, next to Jin’s father. She was still holding the gun and pointing it at anyone who moved the wrong way.
“No. I can’t do that. He must open his presents now,” the crazy woman said smiling a gentle smile at Jin, though her eyes were covered with a haze Jin had never seen in anyone else’s eyes. It was scaring him because he didn’t have any idea what to expect from the situation. He understood how scared his parents were and it made him feel scared as well.
“Please don’t do this to us,” Jin’s father pleaded on his own part trying to protect his family. Jin could see how his father was all the time trying to talk the stranger woman into letting them go, promising different kinds of things for her. But she had her own will and she wanted to celebrate Jin’s birthday for some reason.
“Open the presents, sweety,” the woman told Jin. Jin was so scared of what would happen if he didn’t do as the woman said that with a final glance to his mother he took one of the presents on the table and started to open it.
She would definitely get what she deserved.

Kazuya had gotten a bad feeling from Jin for the past week. He knew the older one was up to something and he was hiding it from Kazuya the best he could. Normally Kazuya would have let things be and let Jin tell about them to him on his own but now Kazuya was getting worried.
Jin was more to himself than ever before and that was what worried Kazuya the most. For the first time he started to feel like he should force Jin into talking to him. But at the same time he didn’t want to do it because so far he had always trusted Jin to tell Kazuya on his own what was wrong.
That is why Kazuya had started to look into Jin’s past on his own. Jin had told him enough for him to be able to find the articles that had been written of the case. When he searched further facts from google he came across something that explained Jin’s sudden change in behavior. The woman, Kado Natsuko, who had lost her child and never got over it causing her to go slightly crazy, had gotten out from the prison the previous week.
“What is he planning…” Kazuya pondered to himself out loud. The bad feeling he had had earlier got worse by thinking of the possibilities.
“He couldn’t be…” Kazuya tried to make himself believe that Jin wouldn’t be up to anything stupid but at the same time Kazuya knew how angry Jin still was at Kado about what she had done. That combined with not being over his parents death could make anyone do anything if they felt like the society wasn’t punishing the culprit rightly.
“Jin…” Kazuya whispered suddenly afraid that Jin would do something that would make him lose Jin. He definitely wouldn’t let that happen. But how could he stop Jin?
“Kazu? You home?” Jin’s voice was heard from the front door. Kazuya had been surfing the net for hours inside the bedroom and without noticing it had gotten dark but he still hadn’t turned on the lights. Indeed looking around himself the only light was coming from the computer screen.
“Oh, yeah. I’m in the bedroom,” Kazuya informed Jin and he heard how the older one walked through the dark apartment while Kazuya stood up and went to turn on the bedroom light.
“Why are you in the dark?” Jin questioned the moment he stepped inside the room where Kazuya had just turned on the lights.
“Oh? A, I was working on the computer and lost the track of time. Before I noticed it was dark,” Kazuya laughed at his so called stupidity that was his attempt to cover his tracks. He didn’t want Jin to know just yet about what he thought of. He didn’t want to blame Jin about anything he wasn’t really doing. He needed evidence.
“I believe the perfectionist was working,” Jin teased Kazuya making the younger one pout. “You do know what your pout does to me, don’t you?” Jin asked next seeing the totally adorable look on his boyfriend’s face.
“Maybe it’s why I pout so easily,” Kazuya gave a seductive grin at Jin. Seconds later Jin had scooped Kazuya up on his arms carrying him to the bed. Kazuya giggled starting to play with Jin’s hair knowing it somehow turned Jin on.
“Prepare yourself. I’m not going to hold back,” Jin warned landing Kazuya on the mattress.
“I wouldn’t want it any other way,” Kazuya answered. Finding about Jin’s plans for Kado could wait. This, the time he could spend with Jin like this, was way more important.
~.~.~
Jin was ready. He was sure he had been keeping everything away from Kazuya. The younger one didn’t even suspect anything. He was sure of it and it was better that way because Jin knew the younger one could get into big trouble because of him.
Kazuya was innocent in all of this and so Jin didn’t want to get him involved into anything. He would have wanted to tell Kazuya about Kado getting out and that he couldn’t think of anything else but getting revenge but a small voice kept telling him that he shouldn’t. So he didn’t.
He had started with following Kado to get to know what she did daily. She seemed to be leading a normal life but Jin wouldn’t buy it. She would kill again, he was sure of it. Just like she had killed Jin’s parents.
Jin knew now where Kado was working, at what time she was working and he knew the way she walked home. Stalking Kado had made Jin to lie to Kazuya and he hated it but there was no other choice. Kazuya needed to be kept out of this deal.
Another thing Jin had been doing was to try and get a gun. The laws of owning a gun in Japan were too strict so Jin knew he wouldn’t be able to get one legally. So instead he had found a guy who had a gun and had stolen it. He intended to return it and hopefully the owner wouldn’t even notice the gun had gone missing for awhile.
It was all perfect inside Jin’s head. He would go, get Kado up against the wall, make her suffer and then kill her. He would return the gun and go back home to Kazuya. Just in case the police would figure out it had been Jin who killed the woman, at least Kazuya wouldn’t know anything and wouldn’t get into trouble because of him.
Jin left for the mission in the evening when he knew Kado was still working. But a surprise was waiting for him because Kado wasn’t at work. But it didn’t matter because Jin knew well where she lived so he would just go there and wait for the woman to come home, or if she was home, then Jin would wait until it got dark. That way the escaping from the scene could happen easier without anyone seeing him clearly.
The day was starting to darken when Jin got to Kado’s house and he was happy to notice the woman was at home. Now he just had to hope that the woman wouldn’t leave the house. The curtains were closed all over the house but Jin could see her moving around.
Finally it got dark and Jin got on the move. He went to the back of the house and started to look for an unlocked window. Third time was the spell and Jin lifted himself up and inside the house coming to a room that had clearly belonged to a child before. There was a picture of a smiling little boy on the desk. The room wasn’t full of toys anymore - Kado had probably moved them away after she returned.
As quietly as possible Jin opened the door that led to a corridor. It looked very normal with family pictures and a painting. There was nothing that would have spoken of a murdering psycho living in the house. Part Jin figured was all a cover up, simply Kado trying to appear as a sane person to others. Jin knew better, though.
Jin’s heart started to beat faster and faster the closer he got to the living room door. He could see light coming from under it so he knew for sure Kado would be there. Just a little bit longer and Jin would get his revenge. The adrenaline bumped through his system getting his senses to sharpen up.
Holding the gun in his right arm Jin slowly opened the door with his left hand hoping to surprise Kado. He had an image of the woman watching television and suddenly Jin would come from behind her and press the gun against her skin.
The television was indeed open but Jin couldn’t see anyone sitting on the couch. Looking around the room Jin proceeded further inside leaving the door open. But even when Jin went further inside he still didn’t see anyone inside the room. Where could Kado be?
Suddenly the door Jin had left open was closed. Jin turned around pointing the gun at whomever there might be. His eyes widened in shock when he saw the person by the door. Jin froze on the spot and was unable to move the gun away from pointing the person standing opposite to him. He didn’t even know what he was feeling right then. Everything was too unbelievable.
“K-Kazuya?” Jin whispered in disbelief.
“Put the gun down, Jin,” Kazuya walked slowly closer to Jin. He wasn’t afraid of Jin - Jin could see it from Kazuya's eyes. Jin wasn’t sure if it was because Kazuya knew Jin wouldn’t shoot him no matter what happened.
“What are you doing here?” Jin asked lowering his gun. He didn’t exactly register he was doing so. He was still too much in shock of finding Kazuya in the house of the woman he was supposed to kill.
“Stopping you from ruining your life and our relationship,” Kazuya answered still walking closer with slow steps.
“I’m not-“ Jin started to protest but Kazuya cut him off before he could say anything else.
“Yes you are, Jin. If you kill that woman the police will find out it was you. Sooner or later your deed will come to daylight and they will take you away. With the prison stigma on your forehead your life will get so much harder,” Kazuya told Jin in a tone that spoke of trying to speak sense into someone “Please don’t do this, Jin,” Kazuya begged being now in front of Jin.
“You don’t understand. She killed my parents and now she’s walking free!” Jin protested rising his voice waving his hand towards general direction to point out what he had said.
“She wasn’t on her right mind then. While in prison she was made to accept the loss of her son and her mentality was treated. She’s regretting dearly what she did and she’s been looking for you to apologize,” Kazuya told Jin to make him see that Kado had changed and there was no need to kill her. And Jin had to notice it was working, though he was still so angry and really wanted to shoot her.
“No apology will change the fact that I lost my parents because of her,” Jin gritted through his teeth, anger growing while thinking of his parents.
“Jin, you need to move on, too,” Kazuya took a hold of Jin’s arms looking at him in the eyes.
“I can move on after she’s dead,” Jin said. “Where is she?”
“Safe. And I’m not going to let you kill her. I’m not going to let you become a murderer. I love you and I want you to always be with me. You can’t do that if they lock you up,” Kazuya was pleading with his eyes for Jin to let it go.
“I’m sorry, Kazu. I… I need to do this,” Jin said and tears started to form in to his eyes. The adrenalin was long gone from Jin’s system and now his emotions were so confused he really didn’t know what to do. On one hand he wanted to drop the gun and go home with Kazuya but the other half was screaming for revenge and those both sides were fighting against each other.
“No you don’t. We can get you help. Someone who will teach you how to move on and process this all so that you can find peace,” Kazuya promised.
“Nothing helps! This is what will help me, Kazuya. Tell me where she is,” Jin started to plead with Kazuya instead now. He was getting desperate and more confused by the minute.
“I won’t. I won’t be able to live with myself if I let you kill someone, Jin. Can’t you think of what this will do to us? If you want to kill Kado-san so badly please kill me first,” Kazuya’s voice grew into a whisper by the end and a tear fell from his eye.
Jin was shocked to hear the words from Kazuya’s mouth. Kill Kazuya? But he wouldn’t be able to kill Kazuya: there wasn’t even any reason for Kazuya to die. Still, he could see why Kazuya asked for it. He knew if it was Kazuya who wanted to kill someone, Jin would do the same.
“I’m not sure I can let this go,” Jin admitted suddenly feeling helpless. All he could think of was that he didn’t want to, no, he couldn’t harm Kazuya in any way. Killing Kado is what he had first planned but now Kazuya was involved and he was getting hurt because of what Jin was doing. Suddenly Jin was filled with the want to be able to move on and forgive. He just didn’t know if he could do it.
“I will help you. We’ll get through this together,” Kazuya promised. Jin nodded believing his boyfriend. Because no matter what the situation was, he just could not hurt Kazuya in any way.
They returned the gun together with Kazuya to its owner and the next day they went to meet Kado together. Jin was extremely angry when seeing the woman and even her constant apologies bowing low to the floor didn’t make the anger disappear. Without Kazuya Jin probably would have hit and kicked Kado.
One thing did change about Jin’s thoughts. He could really see that the woman had changed. The look on her eyes was normal, though filled with guilt. She was honest and sincerely apologized for everything. The want to kill Kado disappeared when he realized that the woman had to live with the guilt for the rest of her life. But still Jin wanted to make her life more miserable which is why he agreed to Kazuya’s suggestion to meet a professional who could help him.
“We really need to go now,” Jin’s father said and stood up to help his family to leave the place and go home.
“I can’t let that happen,” the woman rejected and pointed the gun at Jin’s father.
“No! We will leave now. Put the gun down,” Jin’s father said back and stepped closer to take the gun away.
“Stop! Don’t come near me!” the woman screamed but Jin’s father got closer with determination. And just a second later there was the loudest noise Jin had probably ever heard. His mother reacted fast and covered Jin’s eyes so that he couldn’t see anything.
“No!” Jin’s mother screamed. “Let us go you crazy lunatic!” she continued screaming. She had pulled Jin up from the seat and pushed him behind her to protect him.
“I’m not crazy!” the woman yelled back. Jin tried to get himself not to listen to anything. The two women kept screaming while the worker tried to get them to calm down. The noise all ended with another loud voice and Jin felt how his mother’s hands fell off from his eyes as she fell to the floor eyes closed.
The worker then reacted fast and got Jin up from the floor taking him behind the counter. Jin didn’t know what happened after that but a police came to get him from behind the counter and took him to a check up in the hospital.
Live well. It is the greatest revenge.
