The living things… the trees, the grass -- I don't know… this is true grass?
~ His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, The 14th Dalai Lama, on the Rutgers football field
So this morning was Peace, War, and Reconciliation. Let me backtrack a bit. Thursday night, I came home at 11:30 to find that we (a) no longer had cable, (b) had satalite instead, and (c) strange people had been in my room. To top it all off, about an hour and a half later, I found out that I had lost the election and was not the commuter representative on Cook College Council. I cried (yes, the election meant that much to me) and finally went to bed about 3.
Friday was interesting - I went to Diversity and totally didn't want to leave. But I dragged my tuckus over to dynamics anyway - only to be 10 minutes late. I took my obligatory nap (it's so bad) through the entire freaking class. I felt so horrible. I need to start staying awake. Oye. Afterwards, I went to spinning with Kristen. That was fun and our instructor was really cool. I definitely pushed myself - I totally never knew you could do so much on a stationary bike. After that, I walked to the Hill Center bus stop… and waited… and waited… and waited for a freaking hour for an express bus. (Meanwhile, I called Amanda and Kathy to invite them to dinner today. Amanda couldn't go.) I love the new express busses dearly, but I can do without the Route 18 South traffic. So then I spent another hour on the bus in said traffic to get to my car. Then I hopped on Route 18 North and zipped on home. (Note to Jack, who does not read this: You've been slowly improving ParkTran. Perhaps we can improve this idiocity?)
Saturday, the girls and I wreaked havoc on the Windsor Diner and Nomahegan Park. Okay, maybe not. So I got to Windsor a few minutes early and drove around the parking lot to see if I could spot the girls, but they weren't there yet. So I park, and shortly thereafter, I see Christine pull up. It was 11:27 at that point, so we were like, "Okay, she has 3 minutes." Six minutes pass. I call. I hear, "I'm on my way."
"Where are you?"
"I'm on my way."
"O. Okay."
I hung up and told Chris, and of course we came to the conclusion that Laur just rolled out of bed. We had breakfast - "and fresh fruit is fruit" - and then I drove us to Barnes & Noble. I got a book of Aesop's Fables for Alanah and Levitt and Dubner's Freakonomics for myself. Then we drove to Mack-Cali to see the bush that Laur hit. We went back to Windsor so we could all pick up our cars (except me, cause I already had mine) and we went to Nomahegan park. We wandered for a bit and then Chris had to go work. I had to get home and so did Laur, so we all went our separate ways. I got home at around 3, 3:15 ish and we headed over to my grandmother's house. I did some of my physics homework and watched some TV. Then we headed home and I prepared for this morning.
This morning I overslept just a tad, but I was able to have my dad drop me off at Davidson Hall at 7:57 and was at the stadium by 8:30. (Yes, I walked.)
I got to the stadium, got in, and walked. And walked, and walked, and walked. And I grabbed an extra program for Matt. And then finally, I got to section 130. (They were really nice seats, by the way.) The topic was Peace, War, and Reconciliation. I'm glad to know that the Dalai Lama has a sense of humor. He's such a sweetheart too.
Memorable quotes, serious and non, include:
Any action motivated by compassion: that is, essentially, peace… any action motivated by jealousy or greed: that is violence.
The living things… the trees, the grass -- I don't know… this is true grass?
If we dislike natural death, then death by killing [is] much worse.
[When an] individual person kills we call them [a] murderer. But mobilized on [a] large scale, sometimes we call them hero[es].
The concept of we and they no longer exist[s]. The whole world is now just us. We.
Destruction of your so-called enemy is [an] out-of-date concept.
This difficult to open! (On his thermos thing.)
When he speak beautiful English, I have jealousy. (On how jealousy and anger are natural emotions and even he experiences them, speaking about his translator.)
The very concept of war is out of date.

I came home from that, lounged for a bit - we worked out the satelite bit. After we back everything up, I'll get the Replay in my room, so we've got the PVR and I've got my Replay. And my dad ordered the Indian channels - he ordered the
Mega Pack since it (a) will entertain me, (b) will preserve my mom's sanity, and (c) worked out cheaper per channel than any of the other packages. So I watched some of that and created custom lists on all the TVs that show only those channels so my parents can navigate more easily.
I went to the Cheesecake Factory and met up with Matt. I called Kathy and teased her about being a lil late, and a few minutes later, she, Alanah, and Alanah's father showed up. He's a cool guy, but I don't know him that well. Alanah loved her book and Kathy loved her card. Kathy loved Alanah's book's wrapping paper (comics from the Targum) so she told Alanah to open it gently so she could save it.
We chatted and caught up and then parted. It was fun.
I came home and Ssshhh… was on Sony so I only watched until "Ishq Da Maara." It was a sleezy club song but then all of a sudden you see all these Sardarjis in the background in full gear. Very odd.
And now I sleep. In a few minutes.
