It says a lot about Jasper that the vet feels that way about him - they don't generally see cats at their best.

Poor little Jingles/Sherwood. What a tough kitty. It would be lovely if you could help each other heal.

Yes, she was absolutely in love with him. Even though he would be really grumpy when coming out of anesthesia, and inevitably bite or scratch her. That's love!

I decided to treat this like a job interview, so I wrote a follow-up e-mail today thanking her and reiterating my enthusiasm about fostering Jingles/Sherwood. With any luck it'll impress his current caretaker enough to tip the balance in my favor. I think I'll post the letter here, since I'm recording everything else. I just hope it all works out!

Thank you. He's such a sweetie. I'd really love to give him a home with us.

I feel for you. I just feel inadequate at doing anything to help someone whose suffered a great loss.

Thank you. I understand; there's really nothing that can be said or done. It's hard to see someone you care about in pain, but sometimes it simply must be borne. That said, reaching out like you have here does help, by reminding me of those I care for who are still here, and that I can reach out to them if things become too much to bear. So thanks.
