I've just arrived, and I would like to ask, does this island contain magic or something? Or do those robots that look like fruit just enjoy toying with the inhabitants of this area?

Possibly. This place seems to be run by a mayor whom, to my knowledge, no one has actually seen or met. Those robots which sprayed us are his servants.

If this place does contain magic, it is most likely the mayor's doing as everyone here has had their ability to use such forces removed.
