In which the author waxes wroth concerning marketing of audio-visual adaptations

I just saw something which irritated me enough that I had to vent about it somewhere.

I was at the video store and saw DVDs of the TV adaptation of Terry Pratchett's novel, Hogfather. So far, so good.

But the DVD case has a tagline "In the tradition of Lemony Snickets and Harry Potter!"

In the tradition? In the tradition?

Nope, in the same way that Spiderman is an older IP than the X-Men, the Spiderman movies definitely come in the tradition of the X-Men.

I think it's a case of adaptions to the silver/small screen they are reffering to.

But I do concede it is misleading, and is somewhat dissapointing they put it on the case.

I certainly enjoyed Hogfather in the visual media to high degree.
