Time's the Time

What's your perception of time now? Does it go by slowly or quickly? What about Sapphire and Steel? Do they mark time the way we do or are they timeless?

Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so. *g*

Ain't that the truth. Or when you are taking a test... or waiting for something to happen. I always swore the five minutes before curtain was the longest hour of the night.

Time passes way too fast .More so the older I get.

I think Sapphire and Steel don't really see time as anything other than the bad guy. I'm assuming they're immortal (or at least something along those lines) so time wouldn't mean much of anything to something/someone who lived forever. (Or to quote Tuck Everlasting it wouldn't "exist").

Boy, isn't that the truth, although my lovely brother pointed out that it's not Time moving faster, it's me moving slower. Phooey on him!

So, you fell aside from keeping Time on a pre-described path, the Elementals don't pay it much mind. That must be very freeing in a way.

Eep, that's painfully honest.

Yeah, I think it would be. But, for a immortal human it would have to get awful after a while, especially if everyone around you was mortal. But, I think, for Sapphire and Steel, they wouldn't feel the same way since their basic emotions seem so different from humans.

Yes, well, it's well documented that my brother (who is much older than me, say 83) is a bit of an ass and that's being unkind to the animal.

Immortality has never really appealed to me for that every reason. And since they are immortal together, along with the others... oh, imagine what would happen if an Elemental, for one reason or another, fell in love with a mortal. Wow, there's a story for you!

I wonder if Sapphire and Steel see Time as a sentient thing, with actual intent ("evil" or simply "not good for the order of the universe"). I know we humans love to anthropomorphize stuff like crazy, and perhaps, in the world of S&S, it's because we sense dimly that some so-called "things" really are sentient, or aware in some way. And time, well, we even capitalize it - Time - in this series. We capitalize names, so perhaps Time is the name of a force that is aware of what it is doing?

When it comes to the time of this world, it's incredibly fascinating (and not understandable at all, really); for all the jokes we make about time being slow or fast, apparently physics is nodding its head and saying "Yes. It's not at all what you think."

Wow, my head hurts - this makes perfect sense to me. I never imagined Time as a sentient being, but if it is one, it has a polished and dangerous sense of humor.

I think you are right - it's not what we think. Not at all.

Heh ... it's fun to play with these ideas. Mind you, I think that even a sentient Time would be so very, very different than sentient creatures like us, that ideas like humor, anger, etc. might not be applicable at all.

And even in our world, time is not at all what we were told it was when we were children.

I think there's quite a lot that is not as we were told as children. I often wondered why adults seemed so keen to keep us from asking questions. A conspiracy to keep us from guessing the truth or something else? Hmmm, the mind boggles.

It's funny to think that we always try to bend time and space to our wishes, but in S&S it's time that tries to bend us. So it's probably only fair.

And in both situations, it still seems to come out on top!

For me personally, time flies by much too quickly.

I think that S&S view time differently to us, time is sort of an occupation for them, so whereas it's a timeframe for us, it's something their more involved in.
