What are the consequences if Sapphire and Steel fail?

Everybody are silent so I could say that we do not have enough data to answer that. Because it never had happened in series and I don't recall it was discussed either. May be in comic books somwhere?

Sadly most of Sapphire and Steel is conjectured and there isn't any hard and fast facts for most of what they do. One would have to assume that there are consequences driving their actions or why would they step in to help?

I was just wondering if anyone had possible theories as to what drives them.
