She's probably scared because she senses the fear/excitement/change in you. Julie goes through that when we have changes sometimes.

Doc ordered me this Feliway feline pheromone diffuser plug-in (think glade plug in) that calms them. It has worked fantastically. All my kitties are happy and playful and eating well and peeing in the litter box. I got it because they were all picking up on my grief and stressing. I know there is one for Dogs, too.
