politics as usual

when did "liberal" become a swear word? at what point in time, did the far right break into people's homes and let them know that looking to the future, rather than harkening to the past, was wrong? i hate that my party has been forced to call ourselves "progressive" rather than "liberal." i hate that the conservative stranglehold on america has ( Read more... )

I hate that fact that we have to quallify our human race as 1 or 2.(lib/con) You can't generalize life, and it just has no logic. Also, US government is stupid.

i love that you view life as a 1 or a 2, as one thing or the other. i love that your entire argument was summed up very nicely, and i would have ordinarily been impressed with your statement, but then you decided to say "us government is stupid," which essentially disregarded any respect i had for your idea. however, most people, and by most people i mean learned people, view life, and in this case politics not as a 1 or a 2, but as a scale of say 1 to 10, or 1 to 100. there are no two people who will agree on every issue, and therefore it makes it impossible to have only 2 nodes. really, it's a wide swath, each person a little more liberal or a little more conservative than the last, sometimes moreso. take the "Politics Test" on OK Cupid, and you'll see what i mean. if you really think us government is stupid, for one, try living without it, and for two, in 2 years, you'll be 18, and you'll be voting for the most powerful office in the world; maybe you should start caring a little more, and stop generalizing the government as "

last i checked, the Bible is a book. it actually literally means "book" in most indo-european languages. how would you feel if i wrote a book that some people made a religion out of that said you couldn't marry who you wanted to marry, maybe because he has the wrong colored hair, or wears the wrong shoes? or maybe we should just look at the way we treat the Quran in this country. that's a religious text for millions of people as well, but we scoff at them for taking parts of that and acting on it. religion is a double edged sword, my loving cousin.

no, because your book wouldn't be based upon a savior. you would just be writing a random book. it's not my my fault that people don't accept the Quran. i do. i understand that people have different beliefs.

if you understand people have different beliefs, then why can't you understand that some people believe the Bible is just a book like every other book? most people don't need a savior, they're doing just fine on their own. or they would be, if religion didn't tell them they were born evil.
