I cut up a giant box and we made "sleds" to go down a concrete slide. Ghetto or recycling chic? This caused us to make friends with non-helicopter parents so I don't even care. Cute freckled mom gave us her phone number because we're just that cool. Even dads think so. I brought crayons to decorate, and one dad said, "because that makes them go ( Read more... )

The beasties hurt themselves landing wrong on a 2 foot, new all safety approved playground. That concrete slide, at a different park, gave me conniptions when I first saw it two years ago, but I've never seen child injured on it, young ones or oldwr ones horsing around.

The cardboard doesn't make them faster. Actually, the friction probably slotted them a tiny bit. It just gives the adventure a different flavor.

The helicopter parents' kids come to the slide of doom despite their parents' trepidation, so I commiserate with the worry and let them know that I've seen a child injured on the slides.
