The problem with any wiki listing for the Gotei 13 is that it will probably be current and may involve spoilers. Like, "hey, where did that lieutenant go?" (I say "may" because I kind of let this stuff wash over me in the anime, and I'm not sure if you've seen the last of the de-seatings.) Mostly, I just pay attention to what, if anything, each squad's special skill seems to be (medicine, research, spying, badass fighting) and the relationships between a few key captains and their lieutenants.
I have to admit I was actually kind of underwhelmed by the volume 20 spoiler.Aw, I'm sorry that all the hype had an impact, but it's not YOUR fault. It's ours for hyping it as A Huge Spoiler. Observation changes outcome. As for me, Momo's crush was totally my own and I was grateful to have the spoiled time to de-invest from Aizen. (I was a little surprised by how invested I already was in a character who died the moment I met him. The gentle, scholarly warrior-mentor...geez, could he have been more perfect?) Also, Momo lives

Oh, that's interesting, I hadn't quite mastered the fact that all the companies have different specialties (I knew about the fourth company, but I guess I thought it was unusual). I really need to re-read that whole arc a little more slowly.

No worries about the hype. Like I said, I'm mostly relieved it wasn't worse (I really can't take much more heartbreak from my manga), and I might not have been invested enough to read this far at all without the promise/threat/lure of "spoiler" hanging over it.
I think I might have loved Aizen more if I hadn't been moving so fast, and if he hadn't been "killed" so early on. As it is, I'm annoyed with myself because I actually caught the hint that he might not be dead ("All we can say for now is that he appears to be dead") but then forgot all about it in all the fuss (and all the worrying about Renji).
I may kind of love Byakuya. Or I may love the way Ichigo treats him. Is there a difference?Hee, yes, and the way Byakuya gets so pissy about Ichigo

I could see how you would have really liked Aizen. Especially if you were reading it as it came out in Japanese, and thus having more time to get attached.
You know, the series has more spoilers in store. Just sayin'.
Ahaha, I was afraid of that. (Still staying away from the wikis. And bracing my fragile heart.)
Lots of interesting characters, but damn, I need a chart. This has been my joke/complaint forever. This manga needs a character map SO BAD because all those epic surprise character reveals lose all meaning when we have no idea who the hell they ARE. "Here is a guy... YOU'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE!! Dun dun dun!!" /facepalm
I have to admit I was actually kind of underwhelmed by the volume 20 spoiler Exactly. And no real attachments to the characters didn't help. Whoopdie-do.
Ichigo's father is a Shinigami? See? Patience is a virtue. :D
I love how courtly he is with Orihime, and Orihime has absolutely no idea why. Uryuu!!!!!!
(Whoops edit again: This is where my reading of Bleach ends - more or less - so no more squee from me. You're devastated, I am sure.)
Just a random thank you for reading and posting. I don't do much thinking about this series (if I read Japanese and lived in Japan, I would probably collect all sorts of doujinshi about the characters, because it is their interaction I enjoy more than any specific plot), but I do occasionally sock away a "hmmm, I wonder why" question inspired by the anime, and I finally went to the bother of doing a little research to answer one of those lingering questions.
The only spoiler would be what inspired the question, so we'll stay away from that.
It was just curiosity about what relationship the zanpakutou, its spirit manifestation, and the bankai attack had to the soul reaper who wields it. I just hadn't thought through that the sword is generated by its owner and therefore is directly representative of their spirit energy. (In fact, I don't know if a Zanpakutou could be "stolen" in battle and used by another against its owner...which isn't to suggest that it hasn't happened. I may simply have seen and forgotten it.)
Wow, that's a good question (about whether a zanpakutou could be wielded by someone other than the owner). I will have to keep an eye out for that as I read.

Exactly my feelings.
I had it so hyped up in my head that I was expecting the author to kill Rukia, or something. (Or Renji. Not Renji!) So I was relieved it wasn't worse.

LOL, SO TRUE.
(Also, it seems I'm going to need more Bleach icons.)

Aw, too bad. *pout* I want your One Piece squee more, though. (Hope springs eternal.)

'bout Zanpakutou, just so I don't seem too coy.

(I am getting so much out of the One Piece discussions, it's way better than just re-reading alone.)
Did you learn anything about Zanpakutou you can share, or would it be spoilery at this juncture?
