1. At first I thought Sanji was washing the crocodile. Then I figured out it was his washboard.
2. I don't think Nico Robin is crawling away. It looks to me like she just fell on the ground and doesn't move during the conversation with the admiral.

LOL the washboard. The virtual CCG site I used to play around on had (virtual) puzzle-piece games using One Piece illustrations, and they were always fun to do because of the crazy amount of detail in his picture spreads.
Maybe crawling away is an exaggeration? In my head, she was backing up, fell (either because she tripped or her legs couldn't support her), and then kept scooting away before freezing (you're right, she's not moving during the actual conversation, until she finally attacks). Now I feel like I want to rewatch the anime to see how they did it (not that that's any kind of guarantee of canon).
I remembered the scene with Aokiji being very dramatic, but I was struck by how much it bothered me to see Robin so visibly frightened, after seeing her so relatively unmoved for the entire Skypiea arc. It made much more of an impact on me this time.

This is the translation used on English fan sites, but I feel like I’m missing something. In Japanese: だらけきった正義, which, as far as I can tell, means “justice scattered all over the place.” It must be an idiom, because googling だらけきる turned up pictures of cats lounging on desks and blog entries about sleeping until after lunch.
-だらけ (the suffix) is different from だらける (the verb). Jim Breen says: "To be lazy, to be slack, to feel languid, to feel listless." (きる on the end just makes it like "completely _______.")
I know Merry is supposed to be a boy, but… “he” just doesn’t sound right?

Hm, I thought I remembered this coming up somewhere? wrenwyn and I were having a conversation about it at some point, and she was sure he was supposed to be a boy, but maybe we were confused.
It's mainly confusing to me because Merry's gender is usually not specified in Japanese, but of course English calls ships "she," so that often turns up in translation (and sounds natural in my head).

So, I've been reading the rest of the arc, and can report that when Merry talks, the pronoun used is ぼく. But...I agree with you that it feels weird to use "he" talking about a ship (named Merry!), so...yeah.

This is the wrong post, I guess, but, as long as I was looking up stuff, I checked re: the not smiling thing, but (as I sort of suspected), it's impossible to tell how long Luffy goes without smiling after Ace dies, because the story jumps around too much.

I really liked that scene. It was nice to see the understanding pass from (Strawhat) crew member to crew member.

Yes. Or to avenge Sherry and Tonjit by kicking Foxy's butt, anyway. I think he only took the flag as an alternative to being stuck with one of their crew, since he didn't seem to really care whether they kept the mark on their sail or not. I agree that the anime just confused the whole issue. (And ah, I didn't realize this arc was on Adult Swim, that explains how you knew it.)

I love that you are a Zoro fangirl! Because although my favorite crew member changes every week, deep down I think I might love Zoro best. It's like you're voicing my inner fangirl every time you squee over him.

Not just worn out, but also remarking to Zoro, "All I could do was make noise..." (or "shout a lot", whatever.) Which isn't really true, not only did Chopper need his help in bringing Robin back to the ship and help reviving her, but even before that he pulled the frozen Robin away from Aokiji's kick. (I think Aokiji held back a lot there, but still.)
Zoro could have pointed those things out, and [vague Water 7 ref]sometimes when I re-read this scene in light of later events I kinda wish he had, even though I don't think that would have changed anything. But in any case, it makes sense for Zoro's character that he wouldn't, because for him it has always been true that when he feels inadequate in that way, it's a powerful motivation to train and get stronger. [more vague talk]I don't think Zoro by this point truly understood how destructive feelings of inadequacy can be for some people who don't share his strong confidence. That's how I see it, anyway. Yeah, I almost pointed that out, and it is significant. I think your analysis of Zoro's response makes a lot of sense. It makes sense of the way he deals with Chopper's fears during the Foxy arc, too.
To avoid excessive spoiler cutting: yes to everything you've said about the Water 7 arc!
I'll be interested to hear which page/panels you were thinking of when we get to Vol 35 - I have a draft already.
