Take, if you will, two sets, R and H. Use U for "union of" and E for "is an element of," since I'm too lazy to dig up keyboard shortcuts for greek symbols.
Posit the existence of an element S which might be found in set R and/or set H at probabilities P(S E H) and P(S E R); assume that P(S E R | S E H) = 1 due to chronological order of friendship, and that P(S E H | S) = 0.99 due to duration and strenght of friendship. If the probability P(S) of S's existence is about 85%, then the probability (not assuming S exists) that S will be found in R U H is equal to P(S E R | S E H)*P(S E H) = 1 * P(S) = 0.85.
So, basically, I win at probability; I was made aware by Heather of the existence of set H (i.e. her lj friends) this evening, and the rest followed. Hi!
i tried to mail you a package today, but the lady refused to give me a customs form. so i'll try again on friday. i asked in chinglish, english, then called my co-teacher to have her ask in chinese, and nothing worked. but i will not be defeated so easily! no!
