This was my favorite book that I read over vacation (thanks, thenextcentury !).  Wes Moore (the author) is a decorated veteran and Rhodes scholar who grew up in similar circumstances as the other Wes Moore, who is serving life in prison for murder.  Wes tells the story of both Weses growing up and how their lives diverged

This was the 2011 "Everybody Reads" selection for Multnomah County Library here. Which is a program where, you know, everyone's supposed to read the same thing. I've never actually participated but always wanted to, and now that I know you recommend it, I'll actually have to get around to it.
