today was so great. I love my classes and I love hanging out and I love watching Law and Order and I REALLY love my karate class. Today we had to kick people. I've never actually kicked anyone before (and by kick I mean like, kick in the stomach) and it feels really weird and disrespectful

The yelling also helps with your breathing - most people try to hold their breath when they're fighting, and you can't hit or kick as hard when you're holding your breath. Your balance starts to falter too. It doesn't matter what it sounds like, just so long as you eject the air from your lungs.
