6 music turns guerilla

Mar 18, 2010 20:03

The campain to save 6 seems to have stepped up a gear.
This evening's 7 o'clock news (and part of the Archers) was invaded by the Boy Lard and The Undertones. Most odd.

Oooh I missed that, but aside from wanting 6 music to continue - frankly anything would be better than listening the truly dreadful Pip whining on. I hope her and Jude fall in a slurry pit very soon....along with at least half of the village though I'd settle for Roooth and Shul-ugh being impaled on some spikey farm machinery instead.

Indeed. Mistake by the engineers, rather than the announcer (R4 announcers now operate the mixing desks and cue the audio as well as just doing the talking). The announcer continued to hear her mix of Radio 4, but this was replaced by a recently-used live feed from the Manchester studios by the control room staff.

It's worth noting, however, that all the hip'n'trendy down-with-the-kids people heard about this because... they were listening to Radio 4 and not 6 Music. If people actually listened to 6Music then the whole campaign to save it would not be required.

Quite, R4 is where it's happening. Although I like a bit of 6 from time to time, chunks of R2 (specifically any combination of Ratcliffe/Maconie/Holder) will do just as well. Listening to John Holmes this afternoon was a convincing argument for shutting down 6. He was dire.
