Deep breath...

Sep 12, 2005 16:47

So I'm still here at work. That means I didn't get laid off, unlike 70 or so other people from Nordion. 40% of my group is gone, including my manager.

I don't know who I report to now, or what I'm supposed to be working on.

Now I just have to convince this knotted ball of stress in my gut to release...

Holy Cow!!!

I didn't know that was going on!
You know.... if I'm allowed to talk about my house stress, you're allowed to talk about your job stress. OK? Deal.

I'm glad you're still there.

Me too! A post-recent-house-purchase layoff would have been poor.

I asked the guy that most of my group will be reporting to, and he has no idea if he's my manager or not. My former manager also doesn't know.

I'm the only MT left of the V&MT group. (Validation and Manufacturing Technology) Certainly the validation section reports to someone new, but me? Also, I've been doing a lot of engineering work for Facilities and Site Services lately. Maybe I'll end up in that group? Or perhaps I'll go to the engineering group proper and be at the same level as my former manager?

Ah well. I figure until someone decides what I should be doing, I'll just keep plugging away on my current projects.

Aie!

Wish I could give you a backrub. Can you wait a few weeks?

Does that mean I'd have to refuse any other backrub opportunities that may present themselves before you arrive?

Looking forward to seeing you again.

Of course not. :) You just have to wait a few weeks for one from me!

What's the itinerary for your trip? Send an e-mail if you don't want to post it.

Wow, that's horrible.

Try not to succum to survivor guilt.

Actually, that is a bit of a problem. The other MT engineer in our group has more seniority but is out on maternity leave. Hard not to feel guilty when I *know* I'd be more able to find work than Lisa.

Well they can't actually lay someone off while they are on maternity leave (at least not without legal repercussions) and she also collects vacation time over her leave so she shouldn't be in a horrible position.

Assuming that the company is still around.

I'll let you know if I hear of anyone looking for a MT Engineer.

Sounds good. Lisa is actually an industrial engineer specializing in Lean manufacturing. I'm sure she'd appreciate any help we can pass along.

thanks! N

*hugs* I'm sorry to hear that, sweetie. But, deep breaths! You're still around. That's a good sign.
