Went up to Tokyo last Saturday with Jo and Tonya, for lots of Tokyo-fun, Tokyo-food, and Tokyo-shopping. T and J have a conference this week for returning JETs, in Shinjuku, and so were going to have to go to Tokyo for that anyway. But, going on Saturday meant more fun, conference free Tokyo-time for them, and I just went because, hey, it’s TOKYO! ( Read more... )

that looks like a pretty cool restaurant and your drink is pretty nifty! gold leaf makes it doubly awesome. :D

and my own personal hell? funny, i was just talking about that the other day. some kind of middle-of-nowhere hicktown where the only residents are insane or murderers and there's no one to go to for help and everything's dirty and scary and you're pretty sure you're going to die, only you spend all your time running away and watching your friends get murdered by the psychokiller residents. a la wrong turn or texas chainsaw massacre. that's totally what hell would be for me.

Hmm, your personal hell sounds scary. Still, I think the frustration of never being able find my way out of a place would be far more excruciating for me ;)

My personal hell would be Clarendon (one-way streets, little to no free parking, difficult to get to from Maryland), but instead of nice places like Iota, it would be filled with Arby's and Quizno's. I SHUDDER TO THINK OF IT.

I like Arbys, Quiznos, and Clarendon :(

Two additional notes:
1- The only way you could staff a place like that Arabian Nights deal in the US would be with drama club jerkos, because no real person would be willing to walk around telling patrons to yell "fire" at their food to make it more delicious.
2- I can confirm (and I'm sure that Elisha and Sarah will back me up on this) that Shinjuku station is indeed the most confusing place in the entire world, and cannot be navigated without a cursory knowledge of Japanese and/or a willingness to stand in one place and look confused for a long enough time that someone will come up to you and try to speak english to you, which will work out better in the long run because their english will be better than your japanese because japanese is fucking hard.
There i said it.
