There are definitely some problems with the Japanese school system: For example, the fact that learning English is mandatory for all kids grades 7th - 12th, simply because it’s on college entrance exams. Prune King sounds like an awesome dude. I wonder what the deal with those prunes was though. Those definitely don't sound like the kind I'm used to.
I dunno if you've heard of it, but Murakami wrote a short story called Tony Takitani that was turned into a movie that just came out (in a very very small run, mind you) over here. Elisha and I saw it on saturday and it was absolutely gorgeous. If it's showing over there I highly recommend seeing it.

Yeah, I love that kid. I hadn't heard of that film, but I think Murakami is actually more popular overseas than he is in Japan. I'll probably have to catch it later on Netflix or something. Is is live action?

It is live action, yes. It was really beautiful. Did i say that already?
And yes, I have heard that Murakami is more popular outside of Japan. I've heard that Europe is actually where he's most popular.
