Not better so much as different. I mean, we had a hurricane back in the eighties, and we're *still* talking about it. Half an inch of snow and everything grinds to a halt. You guys view earthquakes, blizzards and tornadoes as routine when we fall apart.
I lived in London for six years towards the end of the IRA stuff. Bombs and bomb alerts are pretty routine, so it really is a question of shrugging and getting on with it.
Earthquakes? Bah, nothing to them. In the building I work in you just get sea sick. Now snow in San Francisco? Horror of horrors! It all depends on where you live (the rest of the country thinks we're crazy because of them).
Though I made light of it in an earlier post, once it was established that the blasts were not that serious, the topic was hardly mentioned in the building where I was working. And this was the London office of a large investment bank with a good sprinkling of North Americans among the staff.
I'm not kidding when I say that the main topic of conversation was England's dismal afternoon showing in the cricket match against Australia.
