Using dialogue to develop character

I was in Taos yesterday, scouting out locations for the new story, (and also scouting out a location for my retirement.) The downtown bookstore, Moby Dickens, was a treasure. I got a book on writing and hiking called The Trail Writer’s Guide by Cinny Green.

it was a sad state of affairs when the characters could not talk freely because their writer didn’t want to listen to them argue!

And I had never heard about earthships. Well, similar housings, but not those. For other people wondering about them:

what I particularly loved was the quiet inside, and the softness of the adobe walls. Not literally soft, but warm and living. I just wanted to lay my cheek against the wall. Okay, I DID lay my cheek against the wall!
The greenhouse and the plants made the inside humid and wonderfully green smelling. There were cherry tomatoes getting ripe! In Taos! In winter!
