Marlowe’s Ghost by Sarah Black, out now from Dreamspinner

(In which I reveal my unfortunate obsession with Christopher Marlowe!)

Blurb:

Former Marine Will Marlowe dreams of being a great classics scholar, but his subversive street art, Bad Toys, is what he does best. When he’s sent to London to retrieve Tommy Jones, what he’s really interested in is ( Read more... )

The new entry is a good idea, Sarah! ;-)

I'm still in the middle of ''Marlowe’s Ghost'' because real life was interfering. I love the fact that it is set in places I know.

Ciao

Hi, Sarah! I finally finished ''Marlowe’s Ghost''.

''Finally'' because I had to work, not because it wasn't interesting. In fact it was too much interesting: I took the first break because I noticed I was going to jump forwards to see what would happen.

Anyway I loved it. I liked the crazy story of Bad Toys and in general the setting, in particular Will and Tom with all their differencies and similarities.

The considerations on love interspersed in the story were spot on, so much that they made me a bit melancholic. But I forgive you ;-): also because of such considerations it is a great story.

Thank you for writing!

Antonella

I love both Marathon Cowboys and Marlowe's Ghost and the way making art is important to the stories and the chracters. I have been following the "I believe in Sherlock" tumblr which is driven by the concept that followers of John Watson's blog would like him believe in Sherlock (we are talking BBC TV series Sherlock not the movies)who has supposedly committed suicide. SO now there is all this amazing street art happening and I want to join John Watson's army. As I was clicking through the pages I was thinking of Bad Toys, so I had to share.

how cool is that? When people are creative, it gives me hope for the world.

When I lived in Boise, I had an apartment downtown near Freak Alley, which was the stretch of alley between 8th and 9th streets where the graffiti artists were allowed to do their thing- (just like Boise, to give street art a place so the rest of the city would stay clean). I wrote a flash fiction story on the wall in yellow paint- my first and only foray into graffiti, at age 50!

So glad you liked the stories- best, Sarah

I live in Melbourne's central business district (Victoria, Australia) and stencil art as well as spray can graffiti is a huge part of the everyday street scene here. We have lots of laneways and small alleys where the artists do their thing. I plan my walking to avoid the city thoroughfares (boring) so that I can see what is new - I was cranky today because an alien (sort of Star War's Jawa-like) nativity stencil that has been up in a lane for the past few years has been painted over by the developers working on that block. The building's previous owners would re-paint up to and around the figures. We are a similar age and I must say after immersing myself in the Sherlock tumblr I was feeling the urge to buy a spray can LOL. Also I should say Hi as a former Army Officer. I am looking forward to reading more of your work. Stay Well. Cheers, Merrian

I saw a funny nativity this Christmas- it was made entirely out of tropical birds, and the baby Jesus was a tiny blue egg in a nest made of twigs and straw. Veering from quirky into downright weird.
