wow...I've been lax

So, I guess I should update this since I plan on making a book of it so I can look back on things in life and see what has happened over the years...I'll cut for the sake of space on people's friends pages.

So Jess and I went to LA for Thanksgiving break. We stayed up all-night on Tuesday night since we had to leave for the airport at 3am on Wednesday morning for our 6am flight. We had the wackiest cab driver, who was sooowanna be ghetto with his mustard and brown velour suit. The flight went off without a hitch and we got into Pittsburgh with plenty of time before our flight to LA. I bought sunglasses and Jess got a postcard. We flew into LA and got in about noon. Amy picked us up in her little Cobalt and off we went to her apartment. It was pretty cool, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, 2 bathrooms. We passed the Larry Flynt/Hustler building and the LaBrea Tar Pits. After we settled in, we went grocery shopping for Thanksgiving-y stuff, like a turkey, potatoes, stuffing, and that kind of stuff. We also got the makings for pumpking pie and creme de menthe cheesecake *both courtesy of Jess*. Did you know that you can buy hard liquor in the grocery stores in California? apparently this is the case in other states, but it isn't in PA or MA, so I was shocked. After grocery shopping we were wiped, but we drove around for awhile taking in the sites. We also went to IN-N-OUT!!! Best fast food ever! Yummy, totally wish they had them on the East Coast. We dropped by Amy's work at CBS and got to touch the Price is Right! wheel and watch them film some of The Young and the Restless. We also visited Jim Henson studios and I made the cinematogropher/choreographer mistake...which I am still being teased for. We crashed pretty early thanks to jet-lag and not having slept the night before.

Thursday, Amy went to her families' dinners and Jess and I loafed...actually, Jess was really good and did homework, while I pretended to do work on my 2 papers and CS assignment we due. It was a pretty low-key day spent relaxing and doing nothing. Sounds like the East Coast Thanksgiving at the Gutherz residence was also miraculously quiet.

Friday, Amy, Jess, and I celebrated Thanksgiving. I spent the day cooking the turkey, mashed potatoes, and everything else. We did okay considering our lack of cooking utensils. I was really impressed with the dinner and took tons of pictures. I even managed to carve the turkey correctly, slicing the joints perfectly if I do say so myself. We scarfed down dinner and the 2 pies. yummy-ness all around.

Saturday we toured LA, Hollywood, and Santa Monica. We went to the Chinese Theater, IN-N-OUT, Mulholland Drive, WB studios, Capital Records, the Walk of Fame, The L.Ron Hubbard building, the Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica's strip/shopping area, an oxygen bar, and tons of other things. I took 10000 pictures because I am that touristy.

Sunday, Amy dropped us off at the airport. We got confused and ended up at the wrong terminal, which is par for the course when I travel. We got to the right terminal and got on the plane. Trouble free flight to Chicago, where dun dun dun...we got stuck. This happens everytime I fly to O'Hare Airport. We were stuck for several hours, during which I wrote my horrendous paper for Professor Roberts' class *for which I deservedly got a D*. Stressed and overtired, it was a less than fun stay and we thought we might miss class on Monday. We did finally get back to Boston, where we hopped in a cab around 1am...only to have our cabbie decide that he didn't want to drive from Logan back to BU, so he left us in the middle of the street in a shady part of the airport to hail another cab.

So that was thanksgiving...now on to the next exciting part:

So, I wasn't expecting anything special for my 21st birthday. People seemed busy with school and other such things, so whatever. Of course, I was pleasantly surprised. The day was rather ordinary, but the night was great. Julia, David, Jess, and I met at Our House in Allston for dinner and drinks. They had yummy hamburgers and I had a dirty martini. Then Roie came after David left and he bought me an Irish Car Bomb. After that, we got complimentary champagne *because it was my birthday*. We decided to pick up Sarah Smith and stop at Julia's house. We said "hello" to John and Ann before taking a shot and then heading to Tonic for yummy drinks. I had a birthday cake shot, a chocolate martini, and a watermellon martini as well as some of Jess' Kamikaze. After that, apparently we took the T, though I don't remember that, to the Pub, which I apparently got into. Then we had apple martinis *which I remember of course* and we saw Garrett *which I remembered*, Matt*who was nice enough to clear a path for me so I could sit down at the bar, of all places*, Mel *which I have pictures, but no memory of*, Jay *which Jess reminded me of* and tons of other people which I'm sure I embarassed myself in front of. We saw Ryan's knighting *though I don't remember any of it* and then I hugged a lamp post outside to keep from being sick. Jess was nice enough to take me home, during which I hugged a mail-box...I'm a lovey-dovey drunk, and help me get ready for bed. I did manage to make it to 4 of my 5 Friday classes, which was pretty good as I was very hungover.

Taking 5 classes was pretty stressful when it came to finals, but I ended up doing fairly well overall. Made a lot of new friends this semester, which I hope to continue doing. Solidified other friendships, which is also good.
First few days at home were crazy. Got home on Wednesday the 21st, Grandma Helene came up Thursday-Saturday...Christmas Saturday, Christmas Eve pizza making and drunkeness with Simon, Michael, Bernie and Patty on Christmas Eve, Sunday in the hospital with Dad *thank you annual Gutherz family tradition of getting sick on Christmas*, Dave and Jo and kids on Monday-Tuesday night...other than that Break has been quiet, lots of House watching and TONS of Football. Not too much to report really. Got cool stuff for Christmas/Channukkah/whatever. I know own all of Guirinder Chandra's movies, *yay Bollywood and Britain*! and Sin City, Cinderella, and the Hitchhiker's Guide. Also got DMB CD, Deftones B-sides, and Institute *yummy, Gavin Rossdale!!*. Beautiful, Tiffany's ring from Aunt Suzy and family. Typical extended family squabbles, but it is the holidays.

New year looks to be full of fun and travelling. Have applied to JET Program in Japan, definitely going to Europe for 2 weeks in June and July with family, going to Miami with family for Spring Break, applying for lots of jobs all over the US, graduation *shudder*, etc.

Guess that's it. Try to be better about keeping the internet appraised of my oh-so-exciting life...not that it cares...but then again who is this for anyway besides me?
