So far today I've:
  • Had breakfast with lisanys
  • Went to IKEA and bought a new desk that should work a lot better than the hand-me-down I've had for many years
  • Tore down two giant boxes that were still sitting in the living room from the printer and Strich Labs packaging supplies

I got the bigger of the two IKEA FREDRICK workstations. Seems to work really well so far. :) I'm not super thrilled about how it looks, but some modifications with paint should fix that. :)

Whoo! I look forward to living in a place not furnished by hotel furniture so I can make nifty ikea-hacking posts like this.

I believe ikea is throughougly non-movable and that once-assembled and loaded, it cannot be moved, even within a house, but it fills a need. Oh, and hacking it as opposed to a fancy oak affair is a lot of fun.

To be fair, no real "hacking" has really been done yet. I'm using the EXPEDITs for their intended purpose, storing stuff, and the FREDRIK in its stock configuration. Though, I suppose I did add lighting to it. Next task is to redecorate it, still figuring out how I want to do that.
...why are you living in a place with hotel furniture?

Because I live in a hotel. Have for several years. It just worked for me.

I've done a rather extensive analysis of why:
