Halfway done

My chemo regimen is 4 doses of A/C each two weeks apart, then 8 doses of Taxol each a week apart. I'm (obviously) done with the A/C (Nov 6, Nov 20, Dec 4, Dec 18). I've done four doses of Taxol (Jan 8, 15, skip a week, Jan 29, Feb 5). I skipped a week because my blood work was too low. It gets tacked onto the end, so instead of ending March 25, I'm

YAY!!!!!

Because mostly you are halfway done. And you WILL do this and get there. You ARE doing this and you ARE getting there. :-)

And you should let yourself sleep as much as you like. We are all so guilty about sleep and it's one of the healthiest things we can do.

The middle of chemo is like the middle of writing a book; you're so far into it and you've put so much into it, but you're also what feels like impossibly far from the end and it just feels a little hopeless and messy and endless.

THERE IS AN END TO THIS. It's not forever.

And some day, many years after all of this, you'll look back and it won't seem anywhere near as terrible as it does now. Think about that moment. Keep that moment in your mind.

Yay for being halfway on the whole sodding thing.

This stuff really is one day at a time. There are days when you're barely clinging on by a fingernail or two, and days when it's relatively easy, and there's no rhyme or reason to it. There will be weeks when even the Day With All The Energy consists of being unable to move.

It's small comfort when you're going through hell, but there are people here who know that it is hell, whether it be from going through it themselves or through watching a loved one do so. There does come an end to it eventually, even if it's hard to believe it when you're halfway through a regime of being regularly poisoned within an inch of your life. We are here for you to lean on when you're too exhausted to believe it by yourself, even if we can't be with you in person.
