Getting to know you...uh...me.

Meme - stolen from Amélie

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really we often know little about each other. I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

I have a question - I'm first!

How did you get into horseback riding? Did you have a horse growing up, or live where everyone rode, or was it something that just you did, but no one else in your family? Did you take riding lessons, how did you get interested in riding and horses?

I first started riding in second grade through Girl Scouts. There was a camp about 40 miles from Baton ROuge where our troop would have overnights and ride. I did it a couple of times a year with my troop. During the summer i would go to horse camp where you spent a week or two working on your horsemanship both on and off the horse. This went on for a few years. When i got to 9th grade you were eligible to help volunteer with the horses learning how to take care of them and how to give lessons to other girls. SO i did that all through high school. When i graduated high school I applied to work at their summer resident camp as a riding instructor. Did that for a couple of summers until i was promoted to Riding Director (aka paid and not volunteer) Did that up until I moved to NY ( ... )

Yes i drew a lot as a child. I suppose i had a bit of a talent when i was younger. I won a couple of school art shows. I was also in a program in school called Gifted and Talented - i dont know what the equivalent is called in other states or countries. Basically you would leave your regular classroom for an hour or so to attend 'class' with other GT kids. I think it has something to do with IQ. I remember being tested when i was younger but not sure what they were testing at the time. They encouraged creative thinking through various crafts and projects. I think a lot of my artistic ability was drawn out through that program. I also had very encouraging and supportive parents. In fact when i decided to make art a career my mother wanted to make sure i went to a school with a good program.
