There is another lj-er (thisbitchisforu is her name) who lives off the grid in an intentional community. It sounds really amazing.
I love the idea of being independent that way, and having a group of like-minded friend/neighbors to share responsibilities with . . . doing solar power, growing our own food, crafting and building, and not really depending on the outside world for anything critical. We're planning to move to a big plot of land somewhere out of state in the next couple years and keep telling people they should join us on our land. When we do it, we're going to do solar and try our hand at farming for food, raising our own meat and all that (I may end up being vegetarian at that point, I'm not sure I can distance myself enough to eat the animals I've raised even though at least I'll know they had good lives and were treated well).
Sorry that got so long . . . this is just something that really excites me about the future. Join us!!!
