From everything you say, it sounds like it really is the right time to make that decision. Pets are my 'kids' too, and I've put down my fair share of them, and it's never easy. But looking back, it's always been the right decision, even when it totally sucked to have to go there.
But from the sound of it, he really doesn't have a decent quality of life any more. Who cares about yours (no offense). If he's miserable, which he almost has to be (even if he puts up a front for your sake), I personally think it's time to let him go.
None taken. My quality of life is definitely secondary to his. His world is in my hands and I have to have responsibility for his happiness. I just don't see him getting any better with any of the options.
