I read Ringworld when I was a kid, about the same time I discovered Heinlein. :)

I've got no probs with GRRM dragging his story out- I actively enjoy all the characters he rambles on about. Moreover, he actually knows where his storyline is going, unlike a few other Long Series Authors, and seems to have a pretty good plan for how to get there.

I like *some* books by Card. I find that he gets awful preach-y some of the time, and that generally turns me off from his books..

GRRM is allow to drag his story out, because at least he's doing some good writing in it... but I'm getting tired of the whole fantasy genre doing the "Oh, let's write a gazillion books in a series" thing.
