So. I guess I'm officially not a New Yorker. I mean, I'll always be a New Yorker - it's part of who I am - but it's not where I live anymore. This past week back was great. Even though I hadn't been away that long it still felt like coming home. It was a very good last week.

Wednesday albauk  and I met for dinner and then went to a Korean place for drinks. Shani ordered us watermelon soju, which they served to us in an actual watermelon. The guy next to us was very interested in our watermelon. He was cute and extremely charming. He had a slight accent, which prompted this:
Me: You have an accent
Him: Yeah. I got in online.
Me: Really? What that run you?
Him: Oh, about $100. The really good ones, the ones the girls like a lot, French, English, those are more like $250.
Anyway, it turned out he was Dominican. I have literally never seen a guy that cute any time I have ever visited over there.
Then Shani and I went to see my friend Elissa's play at Fringe Festival. I really enjoyed it, and apparently it got good feedback. Unfortunately it didn't get extended, but she did have a literary agent express interest in talking to her, which is awesome.

On Thursday I went to MoMA. They had a Matisse exhibit on, and a women in experimental film thing. I spent a lot of time watching some Maya Deren films. I also saw Starry Night, which I usually skip when I go there because of all the idiots standing around taking photos of it instead of looking at it, but it is a favorite and I wanted to see it before I left New York. Friday I hung out briefly with Shani and her friend Robin, who is moving on to a new job. Then I met up with webmd  and cynima for a few beers, and Meredith and I dragged Andrea out to a bbq in Park Slope with us. They had this gorgeous backyard, with a fountain, and you could see the stars - it felt like being out in the country instead of Brooklyn.

On Saturday Meredith and I dragged our asses out to the bar around the corner from her in order to watch the Spurs vs. Wigan, though we mostly ended up watching Chelsea vs. Stoke. Naturally the teams I was rooting for lost in both those matches. That was sad, but I had an excellent Bloody Mary to make up for it. Then I went back into the city to see my friend Steph. We mostly just hung out Tompkins Square, where some godawful metal band was playing. They used to have really good indie bands play there all summer. What happened? Who books a metal band to play in a park at 1:00 on a Saturday? Later in the afternoon we headed over to Nevada Smith's to watch the Sevilla game, and finally a team I was rooting for won. By a lot, too. After that we went to see Scott Pilgrim, which I thought was cute.

Sunday was Desiree and Mike's wedding. The ceremony was outside which was kind of a bummer because it was SO hot out. But it was still very beautiful. Their chuppah was gorgeous and Desi had her whole bridal party dressed in different dresses but all in pastel colors. It looked really lovely, and she looked absolutely gorgeous.

On Monday Elissa and I had dinner at Loreley, this biergarten I'd been wanting to go to for a while. Then we went to Piano's because Joseph Gordon Levitt was doing a thing there. It was sold out, but I've been able to sneak into sold out shows at Piano's a few times, so we thought we'd try our luck. It turns out that I'm adept as ever at bolting through their side door. Unfortunately, JGL's team is too on the ball for their own good. Someone noticed two random girls hanging out in the back of the room, and sent us back to wait in line. Even though we didn't get into the show, Joe walked past us twice, looking particularly hot, so we both felt it had been a successful night.

After that we went over to Nasty Mondays, Carles and Tiye's club night at Le Poisson Rouge. They have awesome DJs, it was a great music selection. It gets a decent crowd for a Monday night too. I wish I'd made it to some of the ones they'd done before, because it was really a lot of fun. Tiye and Carles might be in Barcelona for Christmas and for his grandmother's birthday, so I might hop over to Spain for part of my winter break and see them. It's way too early to be thinking about this, but I really want to go someplace cool for New Years. Barcelona would be great, but I've also been wanting to have a New Year's in Paris for a while. Or maybe Berlin. But I'm getting a little ahead of myself here.

On Tuesday I went to see Mesrine, which is a French gangster film starring Vincent Cassell. It was a strange mix of being both good/extremely unpleasant. Then I met up with Daniela for coffee, and then met Shani, Meredith, and Steph for dinner and drinks. We were supposed to go to Mason Dixon, a place I've wanted to go for years because of their famed mechanical bull. They were closed for a private party though, so we ended up at an awesome Asian tapas place. We grabbed drinks at Piano's also. I'd wanted to go to Mercury Lounge but they wouldn't let us in just for drinks. Douches.

When Meredith and I finally headed back to her place we had a pot brownie and then went back out to a bar near her. I was pleasantly buzzed but not stoned off my face, which led to giggling and singing loudly along to Oasis' Don't Look Back in Anger." The bar was playing Rafa Nadal's tennis match. I don't usually watch tennis, but it was a fun match. Rafa seemed to win it handily, and then he walked around shirtless for a bit. I can't ask for much more out of a tennis match than that. Then we went back to Meredith's, put in Across the Universe, had a little sing along, and fell asleep after turning the movie off halfway through. In all, not a bad way to spend my last night in the city.

It's so weird not knowing when I'll be back in New York again, or where I'll end up living once school is over. But now that my visa is all taken care of, I'm looking forward to just spending the next few weeks getting ready to go!
