This is news?

It certainly isn't news in the south. I remember in the 70s my sister ran around with her best friend and their stair stepped children ages 14 through four and Patty wore jeans and flips flops and t-shirts and Donna always looked like she walked out of a television set - even though she ran a daycare.
And a church there was always the ladies who wore suits and then there was Jeanine, who was a French war bride and had auburn hair and red polka dotted dresses and red nails and red shoes.

Some women dress up. Some women don't.

If you could see what I was wearing, you'd know I'm in the latter category.

But I do like to dress up, but I like to get dirty, too. One of my husband's favorite pictures of me is of me loading a trailer to take to the dump. The other is of me dressed up posing with a bottle of beer (a la Vanna White).

I think that makes me 100% Midwestern -- lots of dichotomies abound there. The midwest is also home to 95% of the appliqued reindeer/Santa Claus/holdiay sweaters that are often poked fun of in the media. My beautiful mother who used to pick me up from school in black leather had a great fondness for these sweaters in her later years.

My mom wasn't motherly... I think being motherly can be vital. Maybe, unlike me, moms don't have to look it... but that motherly quality is important
