IV: Probability Event {Impossible Event}

Apr 05, 2008 20:18

An impossible event is not the same as logical impossibility.

He'd been wide awake the night before, because the storm had been bad and Meg had been afraid. Jane had been asleep, at least at first, so for a while it was just him, Wendy and Meg watching dvds until the rain let up.

He knew that something was wrong in his gut and in his heart. He could feel it. Harry had called at earlier that day, and he'd been excited about something he'd been working on at the school. He was happy, Jim thought, for once. For real, and he was sure he had Shauna to thank for quite a bit of that. He told Harry to stay at the college until the storm passed, that he'd call and make sure Shauna got home from work all right.

The storm was bad.

Harry didn't call again, but Jim had been expecting that. It was rare that he called more than twice a week, Jim usually had to call him. And the phones weren't working right anyway.

The storm was bad.

Jane had come back downstairs at some point, and they'd all had breakfast. Pancakes and eggs. Because it was the weekend, because that was what Jane and Meg wanted. Insisted upon. Because Jim was worried. Because he couldn't get Harry on the cell. Because the streets were flooded.

Because Harry wasn't home.

Because the police were at the college.

Because there were ambulances.

Because there were fire trucks.

Because Harry wasn't home.
