I've been listening to Lars Brownworth's 12 Byzantine Rulers podcast. There's so much wonderful history here that we don't learn in school. At least, *I* never learned it, even in my self-achieved classical education. Stories of emperors and generals and eunuchs and ladies that put even the most intricate fantasy world to shame.
