Way back when,
fish_are_evil tagged me for the One-True-Pairing meme. I'm finally getting around to it. Deep down, I don't cling to "true pairings" for series; good writing ofen trumps pairing preference. Still, there *are* pairings I particularly like, so...
1. Pick your 5 favorite OTPs
2. Find pictures and post them
3. Give the name of the OTP and what fandom they're from
4. List your favorite moment between them
See below...but it's just a bit more than five. (Got a bit carried away... >_>;; ) Even with this overrun, several favorite pairings (and favorite series) are missing. All images are digital photographs from my (legitimately purchased) manga copies.
5. Tag 5 people from your flist to do this meme
Want it? It's yours!
(a) InuYasha:
Kagome/human InuYasha
Favorite aspects/moments: When InuYasha's human, he seems to allow himself to be more honest with his human companions--Kagome in particular. I'm currently disappointed with how little growth there's been in their characters overall, especially in comparison to the other folks (heck, Jaken, Sesshoumaru and Rin have developed more than IY and Kagome over the past few volumes!). Still, their bond is beautiful, particularly at the stage this moment illustrates--during their struggle with the Spider demon.
(b) Vampire Game:
Duzell/Ishtar
Favorite aspects/moments: I love how their relationship evolves--particularly how rough-and-ready, goofy, affectionate Ishtar transforms the chilly Vampire King, but also how Ishtar grows through their shared experiences.
Yujinn/Darres
Favorite aspects/moments: The wonderful contrast between straightforward, honorable, clueless Darres and subtle, brilliant, vulnerable Yujinn. My favorite moment is probably when Yujinn explains the reason for his deception and confesses his love.
(c) Fruits Basket:
Hatori/Mayu
(Mom, at right, has just started to ask, "Ooh, Mayu, could this be a new boyf--"; Mayu, who's long harbored a secret crush on Hatori, does NOT want him to hear the end of that sentence!)
Favorite aspects/moments: There's been one brief chapter connecting them so far--but already I love Mayu's biting humor and insight into her own feelings. (Having a grown-up side story is fun for me as an adult reader, too!)
Kyo/Tohru
Favorite aspects/moments: I love how the two of them seem on equal footing, blooming side by side and *because of* each other. Tohru's easily disconcerted around Yuki--but Kyo she can tease, while still feeling attracted to him. Many wonderful moments, particularly when they're alone at the beach house while everyone else is visiting Akito.
(d) Here is Greenwood
Shinobu/Mitsuru
Favorite aspects/moments: Shinobu (leaning on Mitsuru's shoulder) is terrifyingly self-sufficient--or seems so. But he knows, and we know, how much he relies on Mitsuru. Some highlights--"calm" Shinobu's keying Nagisa's car in retaliation for her abduction of Mitsuru, to the shock of Shun and Kazuya; the way his thoughts drift to Mitsuru during the New Year's holiday; his unspoken recognition of the deep debt he owes his roommate.
(e) Bleach:
Ichigo/Rukia
Favorite aspects/moments: Stranded in the living world, Soul Reaper Rukia has to convince grumpy, dubious (but spiritually gifted) Ichigo that she's what she says she is--and get him to fill in for her! I love Rukia's poignant realization (just before the Soul Society comes to arrest her) that she's become attached to her schoolmates, the modern world...and Ichigo.
(f) Maison Ikkoku
Kyoko/Yusaku
Breathlessly gazing into each other's eyes--
Favorite aspects/moments: Godai may fail at many endeavors, but Kyoko won't ever find anyone else who will love her that deeply. Highlights are the many instances where they start to reach out to one another ...at the hospital after Yusaku falls out the apartment house window; after they encounter each other in the onsen; at Kyoko's parents' house, when Yusaku confesses to being in love with "an apartment house manager."
But there's *always* interference--always, always!
...another potential kiss bites the dust (the other lodgers are staring at them from the top of the stairs).
(g) Banana Fish
Ash/Eiji
Beautiful, doomed love. Eiji's the only one in whose presence the "lynx" can act and feel like an ordinary boy. Unfortunately, Ash won't be allowed to savor that feeling.
(h) Hikaru no Go
Hikaru/Akira
Favorite aspects/moments: The two of them have so much to teach and learn from each other! I particularly love the times when Hikaru realizes he's goofed--remorse is a good look on him. ^^
The pictures above make H and A look particularly young... o_O
