Ok, so maybe anime isn't all bad.. I actually really liked Cowboy Bebop:The Movie (muchos gracias to the Neffster). It wasn't all squeaky and hyper and spirit/demon shit like most of the anime I've tried to watch really late at night. It was like an old spy-noir movie or something with really kickass music...

Yeah, Cowboy Bebop is one of the best animes out there. You should look into the series.

You want some non-stereotypical stuff, Samurai Champloo is good, it's by the same people who did Cowboy Bebop. Rurouni Kenshin is beautiful. I can lend you the first movie if you want. Also, you won't see it on any TV channel (unless there's something I don't know), but Haibane Renmei is one of the most beautiful fucking animes ever.
