Another one bites the dust.

Dave Allen has died. :(

It always makes me feel old when a figure from childhood falls off the perch.

Just got it through the BBC news ticker too. :(

I reckon he's gone on ahead to ensure there's someone there to offend Il Papa when he shuffles off in a few weeks.

Great comedian and very sadly missed.

"May your God go with you." - one of the best signoffs anyone ever had.

I like that thought.

OMG - that is really sad! He was a big part of my childhood, my father thought he was so funny.

Mine did as well. I'd like to hope that, wherever they both are, my dad is buying him a welcome pint.

Although if Catholicism IS the true way, the beer might be a bit warm.

At least it'll give them something to complain and joke about.

Aaaww! One of my childhood heroes. When a nipper, I was allowed to stay up extra late to watch his television show.

Me too. My mum never approved, but I thought he was really funny.

And the theme music was so damned groovy. (Not the opening fanfare, but when the electric piano started playing - yeah, baby, yeah)

I loved him so much as a kid - he made me fall about laughing, and how naughty he was for swearing, drinking and smoking onstage!

Hopefully they'll repeat some of his shows.

What I always loved about Dave Allen was that he didn't respect authority. Everything he did was about questioning it,challenging it - religion, politics, work, personal relationships - there was no "accepted wisdom" in Dave Allen's universe.

And like all the best comedians he had a gorgeous way with language. Had be been born a generation earlier I think he could've become another Behan....

He paved the way for a lot of the alternative comedians of the 80s, I think. I hope the BBC give him a good tribute.

He was born the same year as my mum. :(

He's the same age as my mum too. I remember watching the shows as a child. It would be interesting to see some of them again because I was probably too young to fully appreciate it at the time.

Me too, definitely. I'm sure they will repeat some, or there will at least be a tribute.
