So what's this all about?

Quite simply this is a place to start collecting my little attempts to write so that they can receive good critiquing. It's my hope to produce good quality stories through continual effort and revision. In the past I've found that the input of others really has made a big difference in what I produce. For that reason I have set this journal up as a place where I can get that feedback on my stories.

Because I do have some (very unlikely) thinking about publishing possibilities in this, I am having to friendslock this journal. If it were publicly accessible then the publishing world would consider them to be previously published. By restricting it to friends only this then turns this into a circle for evaluating drafts by a select pool of people. It's inconvenient, I know, but I have to protect myself in this. If you know of someone who wishes to participate, do let me know.

As I am intending this to be a place for drafts that I am actively seeking feedback on, I am establishing the following rules/system of operation.
  • All works here are known to be draft copies. They can and will be subject to change.
  • I fully expect commentary by readers. If you read a work, please leave a comment telling me what you liked and why, what you did not like and why, and things you specifically think would improve the story. If all you do is say "good story!" this does not help me one bit. I need working criticism.
  • Spelling corrections are warmly welcomed.
  • Commentary that is not related to the story will be erased without comment. This is not a forum for debate or casual conversation, it's a working journal for literary improvement.
  • If I put up a new draft of a story, I will put it up as a new journal entry. Previous drafts will be linked so that those who care to can compare drafts to see what has changed.
  • Minor revisions such as spelling corrections will not warrant creation of a whole new entry. These corrections will be made in place. If such minor revisions are done as the result of a comment, the comment will be erased and the commenter will be sent a note so they are aware their comment didn't simply disappear.
Thank you for your help, and good reading.

If you are new to this journal, the first place to go is the Table of Contents. This will list all of the works that are currently hosted on the journal, complete with drafts and revisions. It breaks them down according to size and genre, making for convenient browsing. Just because something is old doesn't mean it doesn't need critiquing, so please critique anything you find here, no matter how old it is. Please remember that you have to be friended to access the table of contents and any of the stories on this journal. If you haven't already, leave a message asking to be added and I'll gladly let you in.

Good reading, and thanks for the help.
