Happy birthday! I keep saying that to you, and you repeat it back to me, but you don't yet really know what that means. Here's a hint for you: PRESENTS. You do know what presents are, though. Yeah, I find myself thinking almost obsessively often about the fact that none of us would ever have been born if anything at all had gone differently before the moments we were conceived. It's the single most significant application of the butterfly effect. One thousandth of a second's difference and, at best, our nonexistent siblings would be walking around in our places.

I just read your letter and was so moved by it. The time with our children does pass like the wind; one day they are stepping on your feet and the next day on your heart. I wish your Dad and had written letters to you and Andrew on each milestone. Savor every day and enjoy Eli through all his stages of growth. Dad and I are so proud of you; we feel blessed to call you "our son."
