Hawaii: the convention days

Mar 20, 2009 15:24

Due to the number of pictures I'm sharing, I've decided to split Hawaii up into 3 posts (I don't think it's more than LJ can handle, more due to my own convenience).  This post will cover the first 5 days I was in Hawaii, which were the days I was working.
There's not much to tell about those days.  I got picked up from the airport by the meeting planner Tuesday around 1 pm, so I started working pretty much the minute I got there.  We were at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, which has quite a few stores and restaurants, so the brief moments of free time we had were spent exploring there.  Besides a trip down the block to Ihop, we didn't really get off the hotel grounds til Friday night.  So these pictures are all from around the hotel.

This is the view from my balcony (looking to the side, not straight out)

And a more zoomed in shot of the lagoon and harbor (the actual beach is to the left)

And my view in the other direction (very zoomed in)

My view out the open air hotel lobby while stuffing envelopes.

The hotel had orchids everywhere. Unfortunately most of the time it was too sunny to get good shots (overcast days are the best days for photography, otherwise the shadows are too extreme).

A random flower on a bush.

The sunset (from my hotel balcony) the second night I was there.

Also from my balcony.  It was raining off and on on Friday.  And then Saturday was a torrential downpour for most of the day (didn't bother me much, I was working all day).

As close as we came to seeing the sunset on Friday night (this shot is actually from the beach, I finally made it past my balcony).

Friday and Saturday nights we got to explore a little more of Waikiki.  It's a very expensive place, with the main road similar to 5th Ave. in NYC (or wherever the big name fashion stores are).  The real exploring didn't start until Sunday, but that's the next entry, which I hope to get up later tonight.
