Has anyone read the "A song of Ice and Fire" series by George RR Martin? A Game Of Thrones, Feast for Crows etc?
I found the first one in the library here a week ago. They have consumed my brain.

Has all the generics of the epic fantasy - swords, battles, knights, dragons, ladies, heroism, mythology, mages, sorcery, you name it, but it does it so...thoroughly and so well!
I really like the series because he seems to avoid a lot of the pitfalls of fantasy novels in that there's no big EBIL vs GOOD, the conflict doesn't arise from someone going I shall be BAD today and everyone else going SMACKDOWN but rather from clashing ideals, differing motivations, rock-and-hard-place moral decisions, challenging of values etc etc and the characters are just brilliant.
Go for it! They are Really Bloody Long though - I usually barrel through books and I've been at this series for two weeks now...
