Hello again! Guess who has 8 straight work days of panel and access to a laptop? THIS GIRL! And THANK GOD for the laptop, because otherwise I would have to jump out the window. My part in these panels is showing work samples, which is fine, but if it is not a topic I am interested in they can be LONNNGGGG DAYS. Heck, even if I am interested, the ( Read more... )

I don't have cable or a DVR. I have an antenna thing where I can get the basic channels (in HD), so I get to watch The Good Wife, Parks & Rec, Parenthood, but I have to find 'resources' for the other things I watch. I haven't had cable in almost four years and I don't miss it. The one thing I miss is basketball, but most Syracuse games I can watch on ESPN3. And I know it saves me between $50-100 a month, depending on what kind of cable plan I might have.

To be honest, the other thing I save money on is not having a gym membership. I go on walks and buy Groupons for gyms, where you can get a couple months of membership for like $40. But if staying healthy is important to you, I understand not wanting to give that up. I actually want to be in better shape myself, but I don't feel comfortable committing to a gym membership because I'm working freelance.

Granted, I also have a roommate, but just a couple ways I save money.

Also, thanks for the links about the non-profit arts stuff!

Yeah I think I have made my peace with not having cable. Unless I magically get an apartment that leaves me with disposable income. It will be an adjustment, but won't be horrible. I know a lot of people do this now. It is just..I have ALWAYS had it, and have had a DVR since like, 2004, so it will be an adjustment.

My gym membership is actually super cheap, only $25 a month, so I will keep that. I did stop personal training, but am still paying off my credit card for it. Not sorry I did it though, it gave me a lot of tools for working out on my own, and I had NO IDEA what to do beforehand.

Good luck with the non-profit arts stuff! Let me know if you need any more info, or just someone to talk to about it.

HELLO! I like this game, where you post. This is fun.

Do you want help apartment-hunting on Craigslist? I irrationally love that stuff, and I know the area well enough that I might be able to tell what's good and what's not. I'm going out of town, but when I get back...lemme know if you want me to look. (Is this weird? I feel like maybe this is weird. But I will totally search for you if you tell me what you're looking for.)

my sectional couch

A double-edged sword, because a) your couch is HUGE, but also b) your couch is the BEST.

My other thought is to get rid of (sigh) cable and just pay for internet.

I thought long and hard about this quandary when I moved into my current place, and ended up splitting the difference--I pay $45/month for internet and broadcast channels only. It's a pain for Mad Men and baseball, but otherwise isn't a problem, though I think you watch more cable shows than I do. But, you know, there are OTHER WAYS. Ugh, I wish we/the industry would get it together and figure out a way to make going cable-less ( ... )

Um, sure. I am not looking to live in DC though, I want to stay in Maryland. Not sure you know MD, but let me know when you get back and I will send you my particulars. Um, I don't think we have ever disclosed our income, but I get paid CRAP. So, don't be shocked.

Have fun on your trip!
