So I have spent the past week a.) Completely stressed out and b.) with a weird sore throat/post nasal drip/not sure what it is type thing which means

Ohh fanfic... how I both love and loathe thee (depending on the author). I sometimes wonder if I will ever stop reading it, but considering I have been for a good 16 years now, somehow I doubt it. However, I feel that if there is any case that might force me to give it up, is if I actually become a TV writer. Then I'll kind of HAVE to. And it would be too dangerous - the chance to click one little link to read fic for my show. Which would probably horrify me more than anything else! haha
I've been on a JAG bent the last few months. It's been awesome delving into a whole new fandom - so much new stuff to discover!
I really go through phases, and I do not read fic for just anything. In fact there are only...3 fandoms I have ever read fic for, and only 2 seriously. (I had a brief affair with Office fic, but it didn't last long because I wasn't interested in most of it out there.) It's mostly just been Gilmore And there are some fandoms I LOVE but would NEVER read fic for, like Buffy or FNL or Mad Men.
JAG, huh? I have never seen that show and am surprised it seems to have a cult following. Because on the surface (and again I have never seen it so this is all an outsiders perspective), it just seems like a standard procedural. I have heard off an on for years though that people get really into it.
And yes, new fandoms are so much fun! SOOO much to discover!
Yeah, I can only read fic for shows I'm really into. I tried The Office for a while too, but it was sappy fluff at best.
I've watched Grey's Anatomy ever since it started, but I only attempted to read fic once, and it just didn't live up to the real thing, so I don't bother to try anymore.
As for JAG... it is a procedural, but it's a little like Bones in terms of the UST between the lead characters. That part of it was a mess, and I think it was what kept ppl coming back every week. Of course, it was far from perfect, and (spoiler alert) they waited til the show finale to get them together - season 10. So naturally, there are ridiculous amounts of fic to satisfy impatient fans. It makes me glad that I never watched it properly when it was on tv. I probably would have given up out of frustration.
