Am here from indie exchange and OMG THIS IS THE BESTEST IDEA FOR A MIX EVER. I love it. May I ask a blanket question of which Queens you had in mind?

Viva la Vida is yet another song with ties to Marie Antoinette. Coldplay's song was said to be inspired by her husband Louis VI 's Rule. I picked Lady Gaga's rendition after rummaging through a massive amount of covers as I wanted a female singer. I also wanted the lines 'The old king is dead, long live the king' to be changed to Queen but none of the covers had this. Eventually the lines 'For my blonde head on a silver plate' and 'Oh who would ever want to be queen?' won out. When I hear this song I really do think of Marie Antoinette. But the references to gambling and being the supreme ruler only to have your subjects turn against you. The is a universal theme for a lot of rulers. Some themes of the song can be referenced to Jane Grey who ruled for only 9 days before she was executed by her cousin, Mary and Mary Queen of Scots, who was executed by her cousin, Elizabeth I, and known for her religious devotion and considered a Martyr ( ... )

Wow- your comments have just made me love this mix even more. The amount of thought that has gone into it is fantastic. And I love that you mentioned both a few Queens that I have heard of, and some that I haven't, so now I can go reasearch them, because their stories sound fasicnating.

YES.

I already love most of these songs, but I LOVE that you incorporated them into this theme, which I also love, obviously. The Nouvelle Vague song will be new for me, specifically.

I just read your commentary on all the queens you associate with the songs. I'd never heard of Blanche or Jeanne before; Jeanne's myth is really awesome. It sounds like a fairytale or something. Of course, TB makes a lot more sense than poisoned gloves.

Nouvelle Vague's song is a Sex Pistols cover. I've had it stuck in my head for days. I'm actually trying to figure out if Jeanne's story inspired the Rapunzel fairytale.
