sunday_reveries : A man takes his sadness and throws it away but then he’s still left with his hands.
-Richard Siken
He doesn't care about her.
She's a way out, a means to an end. He can't handle being stuck at school forever without knowing where the hell he might go afterward, working on sheer blind ambition and no actual directive. He doesn't believe her promises and he certainly doesn't trust her.
He won't stay with her. He'll run as soon as he gets the chance.
~*~
He doesn't love her.
He doesn't look at her at like she hung the stars and the moon when all is said and done. She isn't a savior. She's just useful- she's teaching him things he'd have never learned about himself otherwise. She gives him a position that offers respect and power and everything he's ever wanted, and that's all. Nothing more, nothing less.
He certainly doesn't love her. Emotions are a weakness and wholly unnecessary- she taught him that.
So he doesn't love her. Not at all.
That would be stupid.

He isn't afraid.
He won't talk.
He'll stand up to the pain and the pressure and withstand every torture that's thrown at him.
He won't betray her.

She won't betray him.
She won't choose the daughter she abandoned over him. She abandoned her family for a reason- they're inconsequential and not relevant to her plans. He's the one who helps her, the one who has done everything to ensure that she remains on top. She would never forsake their endgame out of love and devotion to people who could so easily be crushed out of existence. She isn't like that at all.
She wouldn't ask him to do the impossible. She would never hurt him if he didn't deserve it. He's done nothing but give her everything she's ever asked of him.
She won't betray him.
~*~
He doesn't love her.
The sight of her doesn't make him think of things he shouldn't. Every fight with her doesn't end with the thought of him pushing her against the nearest wall and kissing her fiercely. Every time he sees her, the frustration and disdain isn't in a fight with desire. She certainly doesn't remind him of her mother in all the worst ways.
He hates her. He hates her for taking his master away from him, hates her for getting in the way of everything, hates her for being such a perfect little saint. He'd love to kill her if he had half the chance.
He doesn't love her.
That would be stupid.
