You beat me to it! I was just thinking about this subject yesterday....*laughs*

Hmmm.....no one has ever asked me why I liked or disliked a particular name. This will take some contemplation. I will get back to you on that one.....

My name is ok, and I will not divulge it here either. But I do feel in general that for the last 20 years parents have put much more thought into choosing a child's name then they might have done perhaps 40 years ago. I think more emphasis is put on names today than they were "way back when". To an extent I do believe that names are important. But as it is with everything, just because a parent likes the name they give their child, doesn't mean that the child will like it! *g*

I think the reason why I like the name Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella is that it sounds very elegant and pretty. Definitely a "girly" name.

Not very deep, I'll admit! LOL.

Before I forget: You still have not told me what your suggestion is for my new name on LJ. Send me a PM or leave me a message on YIM, as I am still very serious about making that change and want to know what you had in mind. *winks ( ... )

Ashley Nicole is very English and not a name I'd choose for myself. But my mother actually named me after Ashley Wilkes in Gone With the Wind (yes, he's a man *snort*) so at least I am literary.

I think I like Lily so much because that was the mother in my favorite book as a kid, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I just think it's pretty. ;)

What's in a name anyway? For the longest time, I hated my name. Meredith. Who on Earth would name their child Meredith? I was always the only one around. When my name was called, everyone always looked at me, which made my complex grow even more as I was growing up. I wanted a simple name. Like Alice. Hence the username I use the most: Ailis. I have Irish, English and Scottish in me, so I find the Celtic names the more interesting even though I could never say half of them.

As I grew older, I found out that it was my Gram (on my mom's side) that named me. Even if my parents didn't really want me, she showed an interest. For that reason alone, I never did pursue changing it. Now I don't mind being the only Meredith around. It's different and an older name. Does it suit me? I don't really know, but it's become a part of me that I can't, nor want to give away.
