The problem with the idea that women who "falsely" accuse men of rape should be punished in the same way as the men they accused have/would have been punished were they found guilty is that it quite implicitly makes slander and rape equal offenses. To say nothing of the way that such treatment would 1) discourage victims (male or female) from ( Read more... )

Whenever I hear this argument, people are like "ZOMG!!!! A man's life is ruined if he is falsely accused of rape. RUINED I TELL YOU!!!" And I'm like, don't men get accused of rape and not convicted fairly often because of lack of evidence? Somehow they persevere, the poor darlings!

I'm not claiming that falsely accusing a man of rape is not an overall shitty thing to do and very unpleasant for the men, but to say it as bad as being raped? PUHlease.

Yeah, exactly. And it's not like, when there's a high profile rape case and the men are found innocent, it's not all over the media too. It's not like the recanting is only printed on page thirteen with a tiny headline. The false accusations often seem to get more attention than the ones who are found guilty.

Yeah, lying about rape is a shitty thing to do--but very few people actually do it. Because you know, being treated like a rape accuser isn't really fun. I'm sorry for the men who have to go through the stress and negativeness when they're honestly innocent, but it's not exactly the same as having your body violated.

Not to mention that every time a woman accuses a man of rape there's at least one dipshit asking one and/or all of the following:

Was she drunk?

Was she high?

How was she dressed?

How late at night was it?

Did they know each other?

Had she had sex with him before?

Has she had sex before with anyone?

Were they on a date?

Did she really say no?

In other words, how do we make this not the poor man's fault?

Yeah. The idea that women are just constantly throwing around false rape accusations is just ludicrous--do people know how justice system and the public both treat rape accusers? Seriously. It's going to be the defense attorney asking all of those questions!

Unless you're Snow White or nine years old, it's a mess. It's not as though everyone just automatically believes people when they say they were raped.
