Feeling sort of ambivalent about the Avatar sequel series.

And when I say ambivalent, I don't mean apathetic. I am interested. I am also, however, torn.

Cut for ramble. )

I'm so happy you wrote this. There's going to be a new Gundam Wing novel (Frozen Teardrop) that focuses on the children of the pilots and Relena. It's going to do pretty much the same thing to Gundam Wing that this sequel is doing to Avatar. I've been feeling kind of badly that I seem to be the only person I know who isn't excited about this, but reading what you wrote makes me feel less guilty. Thank you!

I don't think anyone knows for sure yet. There's not a lot of information available on it.

The 1xR fans seem to be extremely happy about it, since there were hints for that pairing in one of the post-series comics. They're all pretty sure their pairing will become canon. 1xR doesn't bother me, but the thing I always loved about GW was that it didn't make anything canon. I can happily ship 5xR and have nothing to contradict me. :-)

Not that canon will change my pairing preferences, ever. Canon pairings in anything more often than not aren't my thing.

HUH. . . I admit I am mostly curious because if you do the guys:girls hookups based on like, who they hang out with the most or whatnot. That leaves Trowa and Catherine?

My GW preferences are crazy and nonsensical, so no canon will ever change that. But it is still something to wonder about.

I am really hoping the sequel is geared for slightly older kids. Because Avatar never quite cut it for me. :T

That would probably make me incredibly happy, too. I did like Avatar, but I always wished it was aimed a little older. I remember someone on my flist commenting about how they wanted to like it, but every time Avatar started to work up some real emotion, it backed off, and kind of let it diffuse. I still found it fun, but I got that feeling too sometimes.

I pretty much stayed in it for the pretty fighting once I realize it wasn't going to give me any emotional satisfaction.

No, I think that's pretty sound reasoning, really. The fighting was very pretty.

Thank you for verbalizing on of the reasons I've got this big chunk of DNW for this prequel. It DOES seem incredibly self-indulgent in a way. Although the news that it's only going to be 12 episodes I actually find encouraging.
