Hey, if it makes you feel better, 2013 can't be good either (if it happens, which I am starting to believe it WON'T), for that thar very obvious reason (OMG 13!!1).

Have you read Diana Peterfreund's _Rampant_ (and available sequel, _Ascendant__)? It's about how deforestation has caused wild unicorns to expand predation to human victims. Bloodthirsty unicorns who require kickass female unicorn killers! I think you'd like it.
